Maria Montessori her life and legacy

Haines, Annette M. (Added Author). Davidson, John M. (Added Author). Davidson, Frances W. (Added Author). Davidson Films (Added Author).

Summary: Building on the ideas she first developed in a day care centre in the slums of Rome, Maria Montessori created a system of education based on active involvement on the part of young learners in their own education. This program looks at: Montessori's early life; her Children's House work and the core ideas that sprang from it; the spread of the Montessori method world-wide; the developmental theories she refined in her later years; and, her legacy. Presents the basic premises of this educational practice and shows how it is carried out in current schools, now expanded from preschoolers to students in all the grades. Documents Montessori's own development as an educational innovator, and her relationships with historical figures of her time, with archival materials.
