Summary: In the streets and neighbourhoods of Shanghai, a new dream of China is being turned into reality. A generation of Chinese now lives in a style that would not look out of place in New York, Berlin or Toronto. But for its poorer residents, Shanghai can be a city of harsh poverty. This episode profiles a Shanghai real estate developer; Jenny Ji, an international fashion designer; Ma Liang, a commercial art director; Hu Yang, a photographer who observes and documents the changes to Shanghai society, the wealth and the pain it has created, and his own family's struggles to stay afloat; and Wei Qin, an unemployed worker and reluctant activist who fights to be properly compensated for her home by a developer.
