Summary: Coming home: When her United States Army captain husband Bob goes to serve in Vietnam during the war, Sally Bender goes to work as a nurse in a veteran's hospital with her friend Violet, where she meets and begins to fall in love with an old high school friend, Luke Martin, who came home from Vietnam a paraplegic. When Violet's brother, who came home from Vietnam mad, commits suicide, Luke's obsession becomes ending the war.
